Empowering Public Sector Communicators with Ethical AI Strategy
Metro Vancouver engaged Moonraker PR to deliver a hands-on generative AI training session for its Regional Corporate Advisory Group (RCAG), a network of senior municipal communicators from across the Lower Mainland.
Led by Natasha Netschay Davies, Moonraker’s co-founder and a PR instructor at Simon Fraser University, the session offered a strategic yet accessible introduction to AI’s risks, use cases, and governance needs in the public sector.
The Challenge
With AI tools entering the mainstream faster than policies can keep up, municipal leaders needed to understand how AI could support (not endanger) their daily work. Metro Vancouver sought guidance on where to start, what to look out for, and how to empower teams while maintaining credibility.
What We Delivered
Moonraker PR designed and facilitated a 90-minute, in-person workshop customized to the realities of government communications. The session included:
- A plain-language overview of GenAI in the communications context
- Ethical risks and operational opportunities specific to public sector teams
- Discussion prompts for applying AI to real-world pain points
- First steps toward a department-level AI usage policy
- Worksheets and prompts to support future policy development
- A customizable prompt library to help staff work more effectively and responsibly
The session emphasized the importance of transparency, brand voice, and long-term reputation protection in an AI-driven world.
Outcome & Impact
This training session marked a significant step toward AI literacy and readiness for local government communicators across the region. Attendees left with practical tools and a clearer sense of how to develop policy frameworks within their own departments.
“Such a valuable session. Thank you for coming and helping our communications teams become more empowered to navigate the world of AI.”
